YOURS TO DISCOVER
Local Area
Maison de Lunel is located in the stunning Le Lot department of France. The region is generally warmer, drier and less populated than neighbouring Dordogne. It also has much more to attract the visitor historically, culturally and gastronomically.
The local area is a land of beautiful and diverse landscapes. Dramatic gorges, slow moving rivers, and charming villages such as Puy-l’Eveque and Rocamadour. Other natural highlights include the vineyards of Cahors, the Upper Dordogne Valley and UNESSCO Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park. Largely unspoiled by the passage of time, the Lot department of France is a delight to discover and explore. Located to the north of the Midi-Pyrenees region, the Lot is just east of the Dordogne department of Aquitaine. Historically (before the French revolution), the region was called Quercy and this name is still mentioned in tourist information.
Our region, especially the area around our retreat, is well known for its exceptionally fresh clean air. This is confirmed by the significant amounts of lichen that you will see on the trees whilst out on your walks. Lichen are often used as a measure of air quality as they are very sensitive to atmospheric and chemical changes.
